World Masters Hockey – Event update

Dear WMH Members

We are delighted to confirm that the WMH Indoor World Cup, to be held at Virginia Beach, USA, from Feb 15-20, 2022, will go ahead, pending receipt of full registration fees by the November 10th deadline.

The USA has lifted some travel restrictions allowing more freedom for international travellers.

However, WMH will adhere to strict Covid protocols throughout the Tournament, which will include the following:

  • A requirement that all participants be fully vaccinated, with proof thereof;
  • A requirement that everyone be fully masked, while indoors, unless they are directly involved in a current match;
  • A requirement that all participants follow additional local Covid protocols.

More details of how WMH will ensure these requirements are met, will be shared with participating teams in due course.

Additionally, WMH has been in conversation with the host committees regarding our outdoor World Cups for 2022., and while planning for these events continues at pace, we have by mutual agreement determined the following:

  • Nottingham – Expressions of Interest will be issued soon, with a mid-January deadline for team registration along with 25% deposit. WMH will make a determination of viability by January 31, 2022;
  • Cape Town – Expressions of interest will be issued in mid-January with a mid-March deadline for team registrations along with 25% deposit. WMH will make a determination of viability by March 31, 2022 ;
  • Tokyo – Expressions of interest will be issued in mid-January with a mid-March deadline for team registrations along with 25% deposit. WMH will make a determination of viability by March 31, 2022.

WMH appreciates that these dates give people less time than they might otherwise like in order to make travel and accommodation arrangements. However, were we to make the decision sooner, circumstances might change that would have meant we were too early in our decision-making, which would be very disappointing.

Finally, please note that attendance at the 2022 Events will allow WMH to enact a seeding policy for the 2024 and beyond Tournaments. A seeding policy will also allow WMH to determine which teams would be allocated to which division, should we need to go that route based on the number of teams we anticipate will participate at future WMH Tournaments.

Many thanks for your patience as we have worked to establish a calendar of decision-making that we believe is in the best interests of all involved.

Many thanks to our host nations for their continued commitment to ensuring very high quality events in 2022.

Regards,

Sue Briggs
