SA MASTERS HOCKEY ANNOUNCEMENT

POSTPONEMENT OF SA MASTERS IPT 2020 – CAPE TOWN

Dear Friends,

This week the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared COVID-19 a global pandemic having spread to more than 120 countries. This virus is unprecedented, and there are no rulebooks. Around the world we, and other organizations are making judgement calls every day, on what necessary actions to take. President Ramaphosa has further laid down very specific measures to combat the spread of the virus by amongst others closing schools until at least the end of the Easter Holidays and by prohibiting mass gatherings attended by more than 100 people.

The SA Masters Executive’s highest priority is the health and wellness of our players, our officials and their families and all decisions will be made with that in mind. Against this background, we have decided to postpone the SA Masters IPT until later in the year. There is just no way that we can safely predict whether we shall be able to hold the IPT in 6 weeks’ time. We are cognisant of the fact that many people have booked and paid for accommodation, flights, etc and that they will want to negotiate any applicable refunds, but we believe that all of us will be in a better position if we have alternative dates in hand.

In the light of the above, we wish to consider all alternatives and communicate in a responsible way. Therefore, we request your patience until Friday, 20 March 2020, at the latest by which time we should be able to provide details such as dates and venues of the IPT.

We want to urge everyone to act responsibly, stay calm and take all necessary precautions to safeguard yourself and your loved ones.

For the Love of the Game

Reg Marais

President

SA Masters Hockey Association
